This course is an in depth study of whitewater kayaking basics, designed to take a student who has never been in a whitewater kayak and give them the confidence, knowledge, and skills to safely paddle up to class II whitewater. Students spend an average of 6 to 8 hours a day on the water perfecting their kayak roll, learning basic moves, river reading, safety and self rescue skills. Three or four local rivers are used during the camp. Playboating skills are heavily emphasized as a way to learn excellent boat control, develop a bomb proof roll, and build confidence.
